Dumpster Rental Tips

What Can Be Placed in a Dumpster?

Whether you are doing remodeling or moving, a roll-off dumpster rental may just be the ticket. You can apply for a permit at your Department of Public Works. And, with a variety of sizes to choose from, you can put almost anything in it. But, there are some materials that are prohibited.

The easiest way to determine if something can be put into a roll-off dumpster is to check for warning labels. If the label has any poison, chemical, or biohazard symbols on it, then you need to dispose of it accordingly.

So, what can be thrown into a roll-off dumpster?

Common household items such as clothes, personal items, and housewares can be put in a dumpster. If you are renting a dumpster due to a remodel, most of the debris, that includes lumber, drywall, siding, flooring, and cabinetry, can be put in it.

Other items that are acceptable are:

Appliances

Unless otherwise stated the likes of microwaves and washers are accepted. However, refrigerators are not due to the freon inside them.

Furniture

Wooden furniture will always be acceptable, however, make sure to check with local restrictions with regards to upholstered pieces.

Yard Debris

Yard debris is generally accepted. In some locations, you can dispose of tree limbs, bush trimmings, and shrubs in a dumpster. However, other areas may only permit a few bags of leaves. Stumps will never be accepted.

Asphalt, Brick, and Concrete

Can be disposed of in dumpsters that have been specially designed to house heavy materials.

When disposing of electronics, refrigerators, or pharmaceuticals, check with your local sanitation department. Or, you can check out your city or town’s recycling programs to see what they will accept.
